Theatre Royal Heritage

One of the architectural inspirations for the New Foyer Building is the ‘Glasgow Corner’. Our free Architecture App offers a guided walking tour which starts outside the Theatre Royal and leads users past some of the city centre’s most prominent corner buildings, contextualising the design of the foyers, and with insights from experts on Glasgow’s built environment.

One of the major supporters of the Theatre Royal Capital Campaign is Heritage Lottery Fund. As part of their funding, an extensive heritage engagement project was embarked upon, with a series of activities designed to help open up the theatre to a wider public, promoting the purpose of the theatre and provoking curiosity

The project encompassed researching the theatre’s architectural and performance history, searching through archives and talking to those who have helped build, worked in or enjoyed performances at the theatre over the years.
