George Bell
1854 – 1915
An esteemed architect, George Bell designed the Theatre Royal for its first owner, James Baylis, opening in 1867. Bell was well equipped for the job; a founding member of the Glasgow Institute of Architects, he’d also designed other theatres in Glasgow.
Unfortunately, Bell’s Theatre Royal was short-lived. After only 12 years it was completely destroyed by a fire.
