Scottish Opera

Founded by Sir Alexander Gibson in 1962, Scottish Opera is Scotland’s national opera company.

Scottish Opera purchased the Theatre Royal in 1974, and reopened the theatre in 1975 with Die Fledermaus their first performance in the theatre. Since then, the Theatre Royal has been the company’s performance home.

The company has an international reputation that has seen it tour productions across the world, as well as to some of Scotland’s most remote locations. Its firmly established success saw Scottish Opera celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2012.
